For our take on “work blues,” we’ve looked to both France and Japan, and passed along a small number of our cotton basics to skilled indigo dyers, Kathy Hattori, Founder of Botanical Colors, and Chinatsu Nagamune, one half of the textile and ceramics studio, codo. Our simple work blues capsule is a celebration of eastern and western textile traditions, designed to be worn together or mixed in to your existing uniform.. each piece is one of a kind and produced in small numbers.
When the archivist at Dickies let me get my paws on their infamous painter pant, I could hardly believe my good fortune. For as long as I can remember, I’ve admired this painter pant in hardware stores all over the South Coast of New England. On occasion, I used to be able to thrift an older, worn pair made of an unbleached cotton fabric. As a person nostalgic for the way work clothing “used to be made,” nothing made me more excited.
We are so thrilled to take this storied pant back in time while subtly updating the fit for the 21st century. Celebrating our love of archival details, we’re using the same buttons Dickies used in the 20’s and 30’s and for this special run, dyed the unbleached, natural cotton fabric with indigo with our friends at Botanical colors. Each pair is one of a kind with the highs and lows, marbling and unique coloration that comes from the dye process. This earthy blue color will fade and wear with exposure to sunlight and all kinds of grime.
With affection for the Portuguese community of SE New England, where I live and work, the name for this special pant comes from the Portuguese word “Quadro,” which roughly translates to “painting.” A fitting description as this pant is a true blank canvas that will capture your world of work.

We’ve been wearing, studying, and testing classic Fisherman smocks from around the globe for many years. Building on everything we loved about this classic, our signature smock features a stand up collar, drop shoulder, and a split back to work with, not against you. Perfecting the balance of rugged and drapey, these smocks are designed to get better with age, and are generous enough to be worn year round.
Made of 100% cotton (10 oz. brushed twill), and dyed with indigo by the talented, Kathy Hattori of Botanical Colors in Seattle, WA. Please note, given the dye treatment, these smocks run a touch smaller and have a slight order that will fade with time.

We are so thrilled to re-introduce our limited collection of hand dyed, organic cotton thermals. Partnering with a natural dye house located in Pennsylvania, our organic cotton thermals make a little stop on their way north after being cut and sewn in small town Tennessee.
With an eye to the natural beauty of their surrounding landscape, the studio’s eco-minded practices echoes our own while allowing us to be able to increase the number of hand dyed garments we can offer at a time. After how quickly Chinatsu Nagamune’s gorgeous dyed thermals went last year, we wanted to find a way to offer more garments, but lessen the impact of this aim and we’re so pleased to have found a way to make it happen.
Like most gardeners, with a focus on making beauty a part of the everyday, we celebrate the process of weathering through wear. Please know these garments will fingerprint a unique fade with wear; please be mindful that natural dyes will fade with greater exposure to acids and sunlight.
One of a kind, limited edition in 2 sleeve lengths: long sleeve and 3/4 length
Pre-washed and shrunk but might gently bleed or carry a slight fermented odor for the first few wears.
